Out to Sea

Mom’s funeral was yesterday. I did the same thing I did with Darcy, we went and scattered her ashes at sea. Although it is still raining throughout SoCal, down in Costa Mesa at the coast it was barely raining at all, so it wasn’t a problem.

However, the sea’s were pretty rough so we had to make it quick and hold tight to the railing. Bennet and Summer were the only ones there. I told them they were the only family I had left and Summer hugged me and said I wasn’t going to get rid of her, ever. Bennet agreed, said he wouldn’t even be here today if it wasn’t for me so anything I needed they would do.

All very emotional, especially when you consider that I’m not really related to them, Bennet is Darcy’s son so he is my stepson, and Summer is my step Daughter-in-law. Making Ally my step-granddaughter.

But I’ve always felt that family is the people you choose more than the accidents you were born with. My mom was not the best mom in the world but she wasn’t the worst either. She is the one person who knew me for the entire 57.5 years of my life - or the last one left, anyway. My sister did and so did my dad. But my dad died when I was 13 and my sister around 6 years ago of cancer.

I’m still stuck in a deep depression, hope it lifts soon.

A Day At The Office

OK, I know posting pictures of your grandkids on your blog is so cliche. But there is a reason for that and all grandparents know what it is.

Ally, a whole 7 years old now, spent the day at the office because this week is spring break. Tomorrow she goes up to see another set of Grands (she has several due to divorces, remarrying and great-grands) out in the country but on the California coast. Very cool place and she has her own horse there.

She was running all over the office with Diesel, the company's English bulldog, and making lots of noise. Her dad, Bennet, sat her in from of his iMac and shot some pictures and put them through filters so I had to create a web gallery of them.

Econo Lube N Tune

Why do I have a post on an Econo Lube N Tune? Because it's owned by my stepson, Bennet, Ally's dad. There was a time when I didn't think he was going to live until age 30, and if he did I'd probably be supporting him forever. Then he suddenly got ambitious and he now is the number 2 guy at STS Graphics and went and bought himself an Econo Lube, not to mention buying a house and raising a family. Few are more stunned - and pleased - by these developments than me, but that still isn't the reason I'm writing this. The reason is that I created a web site for the business, it's the first one I've done that isn't for myself and I plunged into web hosting, too, in order get him his own domain name.

So, of course, I used this opportunity to get my own domain name as well. So bear-byte.net now lives!
